Si Qin is a Principal Researcher and Research Manager in the Data, Knowledge, and Intelligence (DKI). Since joining Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) in November 2018, he has been dedicated to advancing AI for IT Operations (AIOps), focusing on leveraging signal processing, machine learning, and optimization technologies to develop high-quality cloud services. In June 2024, Si Qin joined Microsoft AI, where his research and applied science efforts have centered on developing large language model (LLM)-based retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and agent frameworks. These include the widely recognized open-source projects Taskweaver and UFO
Si Qin is a Senior Member of IEEE. Prior to joining MSRA, he conducted research in array signal processing and received his Ph.D degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Villanova University under the supervision of Prof. Yimin D. Zhang (opens in new tab) and Prof. Moeness G. Amin (opens in new tab) in 2016. Si Qin’s academic achievements include several prestigious awards, such as the Best Student Paper Award at the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology (ICMMT), the First Prize in the Student Paper Competition at the 2014 IEEE Benjamin Franklin Symposium on Microwave and Antenna Sub-systems (BenMAS), the 2018 Young Author Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and the 2021 Best Paper Award from the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP).
